The Air Jordan 4 continued Tinker Hatfield’s meteoric success with the Air Jordan line. While the Air Jordan 4 had
a similar “look and feel” to the Air Jordan 3, it was a completely different shoe by design. Tinker continued to
use the very popular Jumpman logo alongside Nike Air Branding, and air within the shoe.
The shoe released in 4 colorways. One popular colorway, the Military Blue, has the distinction of never being seen
worn by Jordan. The four colorways are as follows:
In popular culture, Spike Lee, also known as Mars Blackmon, featured the shoe prominently in his 1989 film ‘Do the
Right Thing.’ The shoes would see a ‘Do the Right Thing’ retro for the 30th anniversary of the movie in 2019,
taking color inspiration from Sal’s Pizzeria in the film.
While Jordan’s career highlights continued to pile up, perhaps there a defining moment for him than ‘The Shot’
early in his career. With 3 seconds left and the series on the line, Jordan took the ball across the foul line and
nailed a jumper over Craig Ehlo to win the series – all while wearing the Black Cement/Red version of the Air
Jordan 4.
